It was important to stay on Poseidon’s good side. Poseidon is usually moody, bad tempered, greedy, and he always gets revenge. Being the god of water, earthquakes, and horses he could cause natural and supernatural events to get revenge. One of the people Poseidon put revenge on was Odysseus. He threw ocean storms and sea monsters in Odysseus path for years because Odysseus blinded his son Polyphemus. It took Odysseus 10 years to get back.

When Cronus, the Titan God of time and ages, was overthrown by his children they drew a lottery to decide who got which realm. He was overthrown when Zeus freed the prisoners of Tartarusto bring war on Cronus. They won and then they threw everyone back into Tartarus including Cronus. Zeus sent them to build the wall of Troy in disguise as a mortals for a year. The King of Troy Laomedon promised to reward them but when he didn’t keep his promise Poseidon and Apollo got angry. Apollo set a plague upon the city and Poseidon sent a horrible sea monster to attack them. When Poseidon was not pleased with his revenge he then also fought against them in the Tojan war as a Greek even though Zeus told him to stay out of it.
Poseidon once fell in love with a beautiful sea nymph named Scylla. When Poseidon cheated on his wife Amphitrite (the goddess/queen of the sea) with Scylla, Amphitrite got angry and threw magical herbs into her bath water turning Scylla into an hideous sea-monster with six heads, three rows of teeth, and 12 feet. Scylla was put in the Straights of Messina and was made to destroy ships and take men off of them for her food. This is the monster that Odysseus had to pass by during his journey in the Odyssey.
Even though Poseidon has a home on Mount Olympus he prefers to live in his underwater palace made of corals and gems.

They had a child which was half bull and the other half man called the Minotaur.
Poseidon once tried to get with Athena, and when he was rejected and couldn’t win physically he got angry. He then got with Medusa in Athena’s temple. Medusa was one of the gorgon daughters of the ancient sea gods Phorcys and Ceto. The Gorgons were priestesses of Athena and were sworn to honor her by staying virgins. When Medusa broke her promise in Athena’s temple Athena got angry and turned Medusa into hideous monsters with snakes for hair.
Poseidon also lusted for Demeter. He went after her when she was sad for loosing her daughter Persephone that was kidnapped by Hades to be the Queen of the Underworld. Trying to get away from Poseidon, Demeter turned herself into a horse. Poseidon noticed he was tricked he turned himself into an horse and raped her that way. The result was a immortal horse son named Arion.
